"Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It’s about impact, influence, and inspiration." — Robin S. Sharma
Hey Reader,
Happy MUNday! This week, we're talking about Leadership. Whether you’re a delegate, chair, or just starting your MUN journey, great leaders aren’t born—they’re crafted.
Here’s our recipe for success:
1 - Empathy: The Power of Connection
A leader who listens is a leader who thrives. Empathy helps you step into someone else’s shoes, understand their perspectives, and build trust—two cornerstones of diplomacy.
In MUN, empathy is your secret weapon. It means listening actively to delegates who have opposing viewpoints, crafting creative compromises that bring groups together, and showing respect even in heated debates. Connection lays the groundwork for collaboration, and collaboration is what wins awards!
Timing is everything: Don't confuse the importance of listening with never speaking up - MUN committees are short and you need to make an impact fast. During a Moderated Caucus, always have your placard raised, and don't be afraid to make your voice heard during an Unmoderated Caucus either. But once your team is more established, make sure you take the time to hear everyone in your team out and ensure that they feel included.
Great leaders don’t just speak—they inspire. They move people, ignite ideas, and rally teams. Whether it’s delivering a standout opening speech or lobbying support in an unmoderated caucus, how you communicate can make or break your impact.
Key to Success: Focus on your “why.” What drives your position? What do you want others to feel, think, or do? Start with purpose, and everything else will follow.
Setbacks are inevitable. Your resolution might fail. Negotiations might hit a deadlock. But here’s the thing: resilience isn’t just bouncing back—it’s learning, adapting, and growing stronger with every challenge.
Every failure is an opportunity to refine your strategies. Every “no” gets you closer to a “yes.” Resilience isn’t just about persistence—it’s about grit, passion, and the courage to keep trying.
📖 Recommendation:“Grit” by Angela Duckworth. I just finished reading it - It’s all about perseverance and passion. You’ll love it.
Your Challenge: Send us your favorite quote about trust! We’ll feature the best ones in next week’s newsletter. 📩
